A Unique Experience
Heritage Experience is an immersive cultural, historical and culinary experience located in Spring Garden, Colombier, St. Martin. Created from a vision 15 years in the making, the experience is designed to preserve and share the island’s history, traditions, foodways and everyday cultural knowledge in an engaging, authentic setting.
The journey begins with the ceremonial blowing of a conch shell, welcoming guests into the story of Spring Garden. Visitors are introduced to the history of the area while exploring the natural surroundings and learning how various plants and trees were traditionally used for food, medicine, daily living and survival.
The experience then brings history to life through “Love in Spring Garden,” a live reenactment of traditional village life. Through characters, dialogue, humour and storytelling, guests are transported to another period of St. Martin life and introduced to the relationships, customs and community interactions of earlier generations. “Love in Spring Garden” has been recognized as the 2027 SHTA Cultural Icon.
Food is also an important part of the journey. Guests experience traditional flavours and preparation methods, including arrowroot, salt fish, stewed chicken and journey cake baked onsite in a traditional stone oven. The making of cassava bread is demonstrated, while local beverages such as sorrel and guavaberry, together with local sweet treats, add to the culinary experience.
Heritage Experience is designed to engage the senses. Guests do not simply hear about St. Martin’s heritage—they walk through it, hear it, see it performed, smell it cooking and taste it.
